1 of 1 people found the following evaluation helpful: Jon Lupo made me want to go to Communication and Pop Culture class everyday. His class is not so much a lecture, but rather more of a class discussion. There are some short readings to do, and as long as you get the main idea you will be ok. He often shows clips from YouTube, TV shows, and other sources that are fun to watch. There are only two 4 page papers to write (they are easy to do), and a relatively easy final. Dr. Lupo was my absolute favorite teacher at CSU. He is smart, witty, hip, down-to-earth, and fair. I had him for Evaluating Contemporary Television. I loved this class. He got me hooked on the Sopranos and recommended a bunch of other shows. People always think this class is a joke when you tell them about it, but it is completely legitimate. I liked him so much, I was his TA for a semester. In order to succeed in this class attendance is important. Also, don't sign in your friends or sign in and leave cause HE KNOWS and so did I. Likewise, papers are a substantial part of this class. The guidelines are usually catered to fit your own personal interests, so it's easy to care and to get a good grade! More so, he along with another SPCM professor turned me on so much to this subject matter I am now studying cinematography and TV production at another school. Thank you for helping me find my true passion in a field that truly excites me, Dr. Lupo!

Great class! I thought it would be a joke, but I turned out to really like it. I took it in the summer and we had one midterm, one final, two papers and two media labs. Dr. Lupo was organized, a fair grader and aware that students bore easily, so he always kept the class moving and engaged with lots of clips and discussions. This is a good class, especially with Dr. Lupo, he's a great professor and just a really nice guy. Plus, this class got me hooked on Mad Men.

Dr. Lupo was awesome! He made a 2 hour summer class very bearable and made pop culture VERY interesting. He uses material that is very relatable and has a quirky sense of humor. Yes, there are two extensive papers, but you get to choose what you want to write about (with a few guidlines), which makes them a lot more interesting and fun to write. Overall, I would recommend this class to all. The teacher is awesome, the material is fun, and it's a great class to fulfill general ed requirements!

Dr. Lupo is, by far, my favorite professor at CSU. He is extremely knowledgable about basically any subject you ask about (and if he doesn't know he'll loook it up for you), and he is willing to help you out in any way he can. He is absolutely hilarious, and he makes class fun and enjoyable with his comments during lecture.
As for the class itself, you have to write 2 papers and complete a group project. There are also 3 pop quizzes, but no tests. It is a really interesting class and the information isn't hard to listen about.
I would strongly reccommend Dr. Lupo to anyone at CSU who is looking for an interesting professor and a fun class experience.

Dr. Lupo's class requires alot of outside of the class room work. The papers that you write are tedious. This class was an easy A.

This class is pretty easy. It requires a whole lot of writing though..About 5 two page papers and then 14 episode responses 1-2 pages and then two projects. They are a lot of work but not hard. He is really nice guy and he will read over all your work before you turn it in if you ask him. Attendance is a big part of your grade so you need to go to class.

I took Narrative Film as Liberal Art from Mr. Lupo not knowing what we'd be doing besides watching some movies. I was surprised at how in depth the class got, but not in a bad way. Mr. Lupo is funny, engaging, and knowledgeable on the subject, and I always looked forward to going to his class, and not just because we watched movies - he's a fun teacher to have and if you get the chance, take him. You won't be disappointed.

I enjoyed this class very much; he has a great sense of humor, so coming to class was never a chore. He's new to teaching and is still working out a few things, but was very receptive to student suggestions and concerns. He's quick to respond to emails and was well informed on all the subjects we covered. No complaints here; take a course with him if you can!
