ECON 202 Freshman Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 8:47 am, May 4, 2010 |
1 of 1 people found the following evaluation helpful: Anderson has been one of my favorite professors at CSU so far. He is extremely informed on all things economics and he definitely knows what he's talking about. I learned more in one sitting of his economics class than an entire semester of my high school econ. Not only is he well-informed and easy to follow, but he makes economics interesting. He's really funny and you can tell he freaking loves econ, which makes class easy to sit through. I would suggest going to the recitation, because the TA will go over homework and past exams. Also, the practice problems we do in the recitations are really helpful for studying for exams. I loved this class and I'm definitely taking macro with him next semester. |

This was my second class with Bret. His class was pretty entertaining because of his sense of humor. His notes are easy to follow (as in legible and using correct grammar, etc.). He assigns short homework assignments that can definitely help your overall grade. Exams were given on the policy that you can drop your lowest one (out of three). They involved both multiple choice and short answer, which forces his students to understand the material, not just regurgitate facts and equations. Overall, Bret's grading is lenient and straightforward (~88% = an A and such). I definitely recommend taking this class with him -- he keeps it interesting enough to go to class everyday!

Bret is a good teacher and knows how to present information well. Unfortunately, he does not give a damn about his students and this becomes apparent throughout the course. I worked hard and studied, and got a good grade. I went to every single class and recitation(which is totally unnecessary), and all he does is teach from the book and elaborate over it. Many students came very close, like 1 or 2 points, from getting an A or B and he refused to notice any hard work they put in throughout the course. Overall, good teacher who presents well, but doesn't care about his students. I advise students considering him to take another econ prof, because the other DO care about their students.

I know a ton of people who didn't like his teaching style. But I thought he did a great job covering all the material for the course. He cares about giving information that is relevant and unbiased. He's also a funny guy who can relate to college students. His lectures are jam-packed with information, so try not to skip classes. Half of his notes are posted online, but it's helpful to jot down notes regardless. Processing the information is a big help -- I think that's why most people who do poorly in the class get frustrated.

Bret is a great teacher and he actually makes the learning process of Macro really straight-forward. He bases his tests of material from class, the book and the quizzes on RamCT that you take once a week. This was the first class I have ever taken where I strongly suggest you buy the book. Bret does not cover everything in class and he expects you to read the book, which is easy to understand. Bret makes class fun and he is always joking around with his students. Truly a great teacher!

I feel that Bret is pretty knowledgeable about Economics, which is nice. It isn't hard to really understand what he is presenting as long as you take notes on it and actually follow along. My issue with Bret, besides that he is boring, is that he likes to keep you after the class is over. He always tries to cram something in at the end that takes more time than he has left to explain, as if students don't have other classes to go to. His tests aren't too bad if you commit to learning the material, but in no way are they a breeze if you just wing it.

Bret Anderson is very knowledgeable about economics, but I feel like it was hard to understand his lectures because they were somewhat abstract. I'm pretty sure the only reason I was able to do well in this class was because of the Aplia homework (which I heard he stopped using). Had I tried a little harder and made it to more classes, I would've easily gotten an A. If you take him, be prepared to teach yourself some econ.

I took this as a summer course. Bret knows microeconomics and knows how to teach it as well. Contrary to some previous reviews, I believe he was quite entertaining and very well able to make the subject interesting - even though I dislike micro and macro very much.

How the hell do you call Anderson adorable? He is a boring jerk. The only purpose of this class is a study-hall for the next one. He makes no sense in class. Do not waste your time going. The online homework is useless and costs an extra $70 so do not waste your money on the text. Do not expect any help from him. If you ask for any help, he always assumes it is because you want your grade changed. It never occurs to Bret that maybe you want to discuss the course or understand the material better. How can one man talk so long and say so little?

The only use of this class was the opportunity for me to study for the next one during lecture. Can it get more boring than this? Exams and homework reasonable. Don't buy the text, you can print it off for free when you have to buy the expensive homework package. Analytical paper was in the middle of the semester and the class was treated like high school. You couldn't just turn in your paper but had to do it by parts which sucked. Just give us an assignment and a due date.

Bret is absolutely hysterical. He is so funny, but also VERY knowledgeable in economics. I had never taken an econ class in my life so I was nervous going into his class. But Bret is great at teaching and explaining the information and is always willing to help students out outside of class. He is so adorable and funny and makes class fun to go to. I hope I get him again in the future! The class is very challenging, but no one can teach it better than Bret.

I took this course ONLINE with anderson, for anyone who's interested in doing it: Anderson was enthusiastic and organized the class effectively so that there was no confusion on the setup of the online course. We had weekly discussions postings due, which anderson would respond to and answer any questions right away. The essay at the end of the class summarizes 5 political debates about macroeconomic policy, which was very helpful. That said, in order to do well in this class you have to read the textbook- Anderson's power points only cover some of the material on the quizzes and tests. If you don't mind reading, I definitely recommend taking econ 204 online.

ECON 202 Freshman Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 2:15 pm, May 12, 2009 |
This was a great class. Economics is always the class everyone hates to take but Anderson was able to convey the subject matter in a way that was ver easily understood. He was a very funny guy and made the class laugh several times over a lecture. His aplia homework, while sort of annoying because its due every week helped understand concepts really well because it is made for the textbook. Get Annderson for micro and you may actually find you like it.

This instructor has an amazing presence and, overall, a great personality. With this aside I did grade him like I did because the information he presents is well thought out and easy to understand. He covered points that were more difficult to understand multiple times, and was able to get the (very large) class involved with discussion. The 202 course consisted of: -Aplia (online homework) every week on Tuesdays (at 11pm) that covered that weeks reading and lecture material. Though if a test or assignment landed on a Tuesday the Aplia would not be graded but instead was treated as practice material. The Aplia can get annoying, especially if you are like me and put it off till the last hour. -3 Midterm exams, these having a varied balance between 3-5 short answer and 20-40 multiple choice depending on how much of each he put into the test. On top of this he drops your lowest midterm grade. -1 Midterm paper, this being on either an economics book that you wish to describe, or an article that you want to break down and describe based on the class material. -A cumulative final that is half new material (info since your 3rd midterm) and half actually cumulative. Overall, a great class with straight forward tests and a lecture worth attending.

Econ was hard at times, but Anderson was fun and interesting. His tests were straight forward and I feel like I actually learned something useful. What a concept. I highly recommend him.

I loved taking this class. I really hate economics, but Anderson made it interesting and fun. He is intimidating at first, but he is a really nice guy. If you're having trouble go to his office hours or email him. His tests are fairly easy if you study, but sometimes the questions are worded a bit tricky. I learned a lot and overall it was a good experience.
