I tried to ask him a couple questions after class one day and he looked at me and said, "do i look like i'm busy right now? Because I am. I'll meet you outside in 5 minutes." So I waited and he never showed. I did get an A in the class, it was pretty easy. His lectures are a lot of fun. He's just not really a good one on one teacher. Was this rating helpful to you? |

Should be an easy A, but you are almost guaranteed a B. Be sure to get a huge group of people from class together to compare "answers" before the end of the semester...it helps. I studied a lot to make sure I had my "answers" right and got a 97%. Don't miss a class though, or make sure someone wrote down notes so you can get them. The best class and prof EVER!!!!!! 2 of 3 people found the following evaluation helpful: I definitely give JAcK a good rating because he was funny and crazy and interesting. But the class... Seriously there is only one grade. You get 100 multiple choice questions throughout the semester and then for the final you come in with all of your answers and just copy them over to a scantron. Honestly I thought this was going to be the easiest class I took... turns out I got a C. The answers to the questions are not easy, they appear to be but never are. I have no idea how you'd be sure you have the right answer, they are almost all trick questions are have multiple possible answers. Great teacher, great class....... good luck with the questions. It is impossible to not get an a or b unless you really just dont care, since he gives you all the questions for the final. As a teacher, though, Jack is probably the worst at CSU. Students dont learn anything in this class, and i know many, many, people who never went to 1 class, yet got the answers from someone and took the final and got an A. Very cool, indeed, but terrible teaching. I would definately recommend taking this class still, but it is a joke. Was this rating helpful to you? |

He definitely keeps the class entertained, and he is hilarious. I loved the way his class worked- You get three or four "learning exercises" per class, and then at the end of the semester, all of your answers to those questions go onto a bubble sheet and thats your grade for the class. It was minimally stressful... I thought it was one of the most interesting classes i have taken ever. I would suggest this class to anyone! Was this rating helpful to you? |

1 of 1 people found the following evaluation helpful: John or should I say... Jack, is a really good and inspirational teacher. He makes his class fun. And the great part... NO TESTS... But one, but you can cheat.. sort of. Well, throughout the semester he gives 2-5 questions with a multiple choice answer, and he mostly answers all of those questions in class so no work to be done. On the very last class, you would have already answered 100 question (answers on a piece of paper you have), and he gives you a scantron to put your answers down, and that's the final. I am living proof that it is possible to attend class everyday and take notes, but still get a B! That's what happens when you are given all the questions for the one final, but forget to circle some of the answers in class and fail to get the answers from someone else! oops! At times I felt like I was back in high school (he expects students to bring the text to class every day which is pointless). The class I took only consisted of lecture and one test. I know that everyone so far has said he's a fun teacher, and he is, but sometimes it gets a little annoying when he starts talking like we're in kindergarten (not because people are acting like it either). One thing that is tricky is that he gives you questions for the final, but when I took the class, he changed them so that you actually have to understand the concepts as well (read: study all the multiple choice questions, but know basically *why* the answers are what they are too). The final was harder than he made it out to be so I think some people were surprised that they didn't get an A, but overall it's still easy to get at least a B. (And Jack's class is much more entertaining than most lecture courses.) Was this rating helpful to you? |

He randomly brings food to class and throws it out into the audience. His grading technique can be a little intimidating, but the class itself is SOO easy. Go to class and take down his questions every day and you will ACE the final exam. Hes a really interesting professor and i wish that I could take more classes from professors like him. This guy has too much fun during class and it shows. He's a great prof and super funny. It's an easy class just stay up to date on the learning exercises and then meet with other students to coordinate and get a great score on the final.

Jack is nuts!!! But he makes class entertaining and sometimes fun to attend. It was a very easy class as there was only one test. He gave us the scantron the first day, and several quesitons every class. Then we turned it in the last day and that was our class grade. Very easy class if you actually go. Make sure you go though, or you will miss the questions!!

Be prepared if you take 125 to study hard at the end of the year, the only grade you have is the final! The good news? He gives you all the questions! I never minded going to this class because Jack is very entertaining to watch, something that cannot be described, only experienced.

Jack taught my two-hour FN 125 session once a week last semester, and I honestly don't think I could have made it through the long class if he hadn't been so entertaining! From throwing pieces of his lunch into the crowd of students, to running into walls while doing a "marathon", Jack has been the most interesting professor I have had thus far. It might also be helpful to note that he presents interesting (and at times very funny)videos and illustrations in his lessons.

The "Final" at the end is a collection of multiple questions he gives you everyday so there is no escaping him. He is not funny...he will tell a so called joke only to get dead silence from the entire class. Unless absolutely necessary DO NOT get this crazy guy as a teacher. I would rather cut off each of my fingers individually, put salt on the open wounds and simultaneously run a marathon before seeing him again. Was this rating helpful to you? |

Most of the questions seems like they could have more than one possible answer and Avens will not help students. He's obnoxious and would probably be better off teaching in a jr. high school. He also can be really rude and loud. If you are going to take this class keep up with the questions! DO NOT blow them off until the end of the semester. He knows what he is talking about and is a fun guy to listen to, but is not the best at passing that knowledge along. One of the classes I litterally showed up every day (I got a C on the 'final") and the other where i showed up maybe half the time(I also got a C). Not to mention, the final is composed of 100 learning exercises that were given during all the class periods and the answers are given in class or found in the course textbook. You are allowed to get all the answers before the final and bring in a sheet that has all your answers to copy onto a bubble sheet. By giving you all the questions for your final exam in class, and making it the only grade you receive for the semester, he basically trains you never to come to class. All you need is a friend who will switch off days with you, and you can easily get the questions. I didn't learn anything in that class. And Jack is not entertaining, he's annoying. Buy yourself a pack of flash cards for the class and put all the questions he gets for you on them so you can practice the questions throughout the semester.
