I personally really liked Mme Barnes. If you did what was expected, there was no way you were going to get lower than maybe a B or C. She assigns homework everyday, and most days does collect it. If you do the homework and try to actually understand the material, then you will do fine. I made flashcards for every vocab set and that was helpful too. When studying for tests, go through the online quizzes. Her test sections for this class were almost exactly like online quizzes or things out of the workbook. She doesn't try to trick you. And she's willing to help outside of class. She's a professor who truly loves her job and the subject, and wants you to love it just as much. I can't stess it enough, actually do the homework and go to class and you will learn the material!

Okay, so even though I haven't had Barnes for over 2 years now, I feel I need to rate her. She is a very caring and understanding Prof, and will do whatever she can to help a student do well in her class. My memory is a bit fuzzy with specific class information, but I do know that she is probably one of the best French instructors I have ever had. She's not too strict, and trys to envelope you not only in the language, but encourages you to surround yourself with the culture.

Mme. Barnes presented the material very clearly, and kept her class busy the whole time, which I appreciate. She had effective vocabulary games and cultural exerpts to help the information stick in the minds of her students. I found the test load to be quite reasonable, equitable to the level of the class.

Grading policies are fair, the homework load is significant at the beginning of the semester, but segways to reading by the end. Tests are unbelievably simplistic.

Mme Barnes is my favorite professor so far at CSU. She is passionate about what she teaches and is damn good at it. This class was pretty hard for me because there was lots of homework that she checked everyday. But she makes sure you do your homework because she really wants you to learn the language. She will do anything she can to help you outside of class, and is a very nice person. I had a lot going on this semester and I felt guilty when I didn't go to class or study as much as I should of because she really cared and wanted me to do well. She's extremely understanding with her students and will try to work with you as much as she can. She is extremely fair and I respect her a lot as a teacher. I would recommend her to anyone.

Madame Barnes is a wonderful professor who is very dedicated to her students and her work. Not only does she take time out of her schedule to help students outside of class, she is also willing to help with things like study abroad and questions about minoring or majoring in french. This was definitely one of my favorite classes, she put considerable effort into making sure that every student had a good understanding of the material presented in class. She is very considerate and dedicated to what she does.

I have had Mme Barnes for 2 years and she is a wonderful person. However, her teaching style is not that great. She definitely plays favorites, and you can tell by the way she treats certain students during class. I'm good friends with one of her favorites in class and somehow he always gets away with not doing homework, and when we work on an assignment in pairs he always gets a higher grade than his partner who did the same exact work. She will be completely understanding if one of her favorites forgot to do an assignment, but if you're not her favorite be prepared to get points docked off. I have worked extremely hard in both of her classes, but I can never manage to recieve an A in her class, mainly because her homework assignments are just busy work and she gives you participation points based on how much she likes you. Also make sure to check the grade sheets she gives you in class because she has a tendency to "accidentally" give you a zero for an assignment that you tured in. Don't get me wrong, she's amazing at teaching french but don't be surprised if your grade is lower because of "participation." I've gotten A's on all the tests and essays but my participation and homework assignments is what brought me down a letter grade, I don't think that makes any sense.

At first Mme. Barnes seemed to be a great professor. Don't get me wrong, she is very knowledgeable and she was incredibly prepared for each class. However, she played favorites. I didn't realize professors did this, but she does. She picks out a few students that she just adores and even if they miss a homework assignment or don't come to class she is understanding and tries to help them to the best of their abilities because she sees potential in them. Me? I was not one of her favorites even though I attended every class, turned in every homework assignment and made a conscious effort to ask her for help outside of class when I needed it. When I went to visit her, she yelled at me for not understanding the material saying that I never pay attention. Come to find out at our next class period, NO ONE understood the material! Even though I got a B in the class and worked extremely hard, she discouraged me from taking her other French classes and made me feel like a moron. If I wouldn't have cared about French and I was disrespectful to her in any way, she would have every right to treat me the way she did. But I was a hard working student. French doesn't come easy for me, but I worked hard and that didn't seem to matter to her. She is a harsh, but fair grader (I'll give her that). She made me despise French and I almost dropped it as my minor. I'm glad I stuck with it because there are many other teachers in the French department who are kind and understanding --- and they make French fun! I discourage taking French with Mme. Barnes.

I've always thought my french teachers were great and Mme. Barnes is no exception. She's fantastic! I got a lot out of taking her class. I learned so much from her classes. She's always willing to meet students outside of class and she really does help. Plus, she's a wonderful person. I love just talking to her, she's just so great. If you have the chance, take her classes, you won't regret it and you'll learn so much more. From when I first walked in her class to when I walked out of the final, I learned so much more. Mme. Barnes rocks!

Mme Barnes brings so much more to the classroom than just vocabulary lessons and what not--she always has something cultural to add to everything, which is important for teaching a foreign language in the United States. At times I really felt like I was in France, as corny as that may sound.

What a wonderful teacher! I was the only freshman in the class that semester, and her great teaching style and her genuine care for her students made the class so much better and easier. She grades fairly and explains herself, and she provides much encouragement and enthusiasm. It was a great way to start my French studies at CSU.

Mme Barnes is one of the most dynamic and enthusiastic language professors I have ever encountered. She is absolutely willing to help students as much as they require and she is an amazing human being as well as a fantastic teacher. Her excitement for the French language and life in general will inspire one every class session to achieve their highest goals.

If you are looking to actually learn something new in French I suggest to find a different teacher. I learned absolutely nothing new from this course that I hadn't already learned in high school. Yet if you are simply looking for a review or a GPA booster you should take her class. There is homework every day but it is rather easy and straight forward. Even better is her tests and quizzes (which there are a lot of)are actally easier than the homework and I got an A on every test without studying for one of them. She is very bubbly and enthusiastic even at nine in the morning and beware of her music. At least once a week you will be forced to sing along to one of her cooky french songs. She also has a rather good french accent so you wont be learning to pronounce french words the wrong way!
